Freeman missed nine games to be with his son
Freddie Freeman left the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 14th, 2023 due to a severe illness that his three-year-old son, Maximus, was experiencing. Freeman returned to the field on Monday and spoke publicly for the first time about what his family has been going through.
Guillain-Barre Syndrome
Freeman revealed that his son was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects the nerves, causing weakness and numbness. Maximus was unable to walk or use his arms and legs when he was first diagnosed.
Freeman's return
Despite the challenges, Freeman said that Maximus is making progress and is now able to walk with assistance. Freeman said that he is grateful for the support of his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time.
Freeman's return is a boost for the Dodgers, who are currently in the midst of a playoff race. The team is hoping that Freeman can help them reach the World Series for the first time since 2018.
