Steady rain in Shimla, 75 roads shut

Shimla city witnessed another wet spell on Thursday, with rain continuing since early morning hours

According to the local meteorological centre, Shimla recorded 16.2 mm of rain since Wednesday evening. The downpour has led to the closure of 75 roads in the city, causing severe traffic snarls.

The affected roads include major thoroughfares like the Shimla-Kalka Highway, which has been blocked at several points due to landslides. Other affected roads include the Shimla-Naldehra Road, the Shimla-Mashobra Road, and the Shimla-Tattapani Road.

The heavy rainfall has also caused waterlogging in several parts of the city

Low-lying areas like Sanjauli, Chhota Shimla, and Lakkar Bazar are particularly affected, with waterlogging making it difficult for residents to move around.

The incessant rain has also led to power outages in some parts of the city. The Shimla Municipal Corporation is working to restore power supply at the earliest.

“We are closely monitoring the situation and taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our citizens,” said an official of the Shimla Municipal Corporation.

The official advised people to avoid venturing out unnecessarily and to be cautious while driving in the rain.

The heavy rainfall is likely to continue for the next few hours, and the Shimla Municipal Corporation has issued a warning to residents to be prepared for further disruptions.
