Mantua Township Police Department Investigating Fatal Accident on State Route 55

Details of the Accident

On September 20, 2023, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Mantua Township Police Department responded to a fatal accident on State Route 55 near mile marker 17. Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2018 Honda Civic, driven by 23-year-old Sarah Jones of Mantua, was traveling southbound on State Route 55 when it crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2020 Toyota Camry, driven by 35-year-old James Smith of Sewell.

Tragically, both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene by responding paramedics. The cause of the accident is still under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time.
