Let's Talk: William Friedkin's "Sorcerer" (1977)
A Long-Underrated Thriller Restored to Glory
Surprise Gem from 1977
Despite its recent restoration and Blu-Ray release, William Friedkin's 1977 thriller "Sorcerer" remains a surprisingly little-known film. Released a month after the original "Star Wars," "Sorcerer" was overshadowed by the blockbuster's success.
A Remake with a Twist
"Sorcerer" is a remake of the classic 1953 French film "The Wages of Fear." Friedkin's version starred Roy Scheider, Bruno Cremer, and Francisco Rabal as men hired to transport a shipment of unstable nitroglycerin through the treacherous South American jungle.
